  • First Like Flies

  • Thanks to mule.net for the photos

The second night of two in the Commodore Ballroom had a lot to live up to but the first song Bad Little Doggie showed that the Mule had come to play. I Can't Quit You Babe reeked of Delta blues and Rocking Horse galloped right through to a great World Gone Wild. The last half of the set was mostly consumed with a soaring Gameface->Mountain Jam->Gameface prior to the set closing Reggae Soulshine.

The second set held many surprises starting with the set opening From A Whisper To A Scream followed by the groovy Johnny Bratton Jam. Making its debut in the pre-drums slot, Like Flies featured the musical stylings of Danny Louis on guitar and sated the many in the crowd who had been waiting for Like Flies to make an appearance. In celebration of Chuck Berry's birthday, Let It Rock was a finger-blistering rocker that came out of Drums, but the surprises didn't stop there. The set closer Mule naturally found its way into I've Been Working but then slid into Who Do You Love before repeating it all backwards to end with Mule. The encore also held some surprises. Not only were there two encores played - and played brilliantly - they were both rare treats. Out Of The Rain followed by Can't Hold Out was a memorable way to end an unforgettable Canadian excursion.
