- This new Deluxe Edition of Retrograss (Acoustic Disc ACD-37) featuring American folk icons John Hartford, Mike Seeger and David Grisman contains the original 17 tracks plus nine alternate takes and one unreleased track, all in the high-definition (24 bit, 96 khz) format. This unusual project featuring bluegrass and country songs played in older styles was originally released in 1999 and nominated for a Grammy. Writing for Allmusic, critic Brian Kelly wrote "These live, in-studio recordings are mirthful, rocking chair adaptations of American music history.”
This HD release provides an opportunity for listeners to enjoy Retrograss in a sonically superior format. "These tracks are the closest sonic equivalents of the analog master tapes available and sound noticeably better than they did on the CD" says Dawg.
