Widespread Panic

"Fantastic show--I had a client from england in town and decided this was going to be a business event. Well, it was spot-on. Panic was sweet, really sweet, from the beginning to the end. I think the sound was a bit murky in Adams, which is to be expected, but the musicianship was all about hitting the right notes. Really liked how they found a groove and kept it going all through the second set. Slippin was perfect and set the stage for the rest. Henry Parsons was an interesting choice to go to to close, but worked because they had it goin on. I hope Panic returns to Montana someday! "

"Just listened to this show and it is a smoker, especially post drums !I have been waiting a looong time to hear this one b/c it just looked liked it was a killer - this one is up there for the entire tour. BTW, funny you mention the Walkin` pause b/c I was quite surprised to hear it myself. The last time they did the pause, to my knowledge, was at The Fox run in May 2006 [where they filmed both shows for DVD release] .... it also just happened to be the 1st Walkin` since Houser`s passing - ltp before 2006 Fox run was Oak Mtn. 4-28-2002, I do believe !"

""THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH" is what I think of when I think of panic shows. Wow! Has every show this tour been so good? I can`t believe how they have actually managed to grow and improve and build on the past still. They just keep going up and up. When will it end? Never I tell you Never.....I haven`t seen the boys since 05 at the Big Sky Brewery and I have been thinking about how much George used to rip with wsp. But the way this show went for me, I couldn`t have imagined a finer night. It was like Heaven for 3 hours. Every minute seemed like forever because every minute was packed with intense goodness. SATISFIED? How could you want anything more from a live show? When they came out in the midst of DJ Boogie`s jam and started working right in, shit just jumped off...LGDTB tore into the evening and Little Kin was much appreciated since I have been enjoying 6.24.07 red rocks little kin a lot lately. Perfect #2 song. The Dyan Sleeping Pieces complex was a wonderful stretch in the middle of the set, gearing up for the massive set closing monster. Ain`t no Use sounded so good and the ensuing jam was trailblazing as they set up Mr. ROCK. This was when I hit the roof and just melted as I floated through the groove. I haven`t seen rock live since 99 red rocks and I had kind of forgotten about the incessent groove that composes the rock intention. What fun. During the rock jam I was thinking whoa..big set..this must be the set closer..this was huge....then they jumped into a song I didn`t right away recognize, but haven`t stop listening to since I downloaded the show last friday. Visiting Day. One of the highlights of this show was the visiting day. Once again I was thinking...whoa...huge set...must be closing...WORRYIN` Hittin the note. The shifty, elusive and exciting (almost be-bop?) theme of this song stuck with me for days. I remember watching Jimmy from 4th-5th row where we were and thinking that this was it. This was the best jam of the show....Then came set II....This is probably a good time to mention the extremely high level of sound quality. At the show it was absolutely impeccable and on the download it is as good as I`ve heard. I remember in July `99 at Jackson Hole when I was looking at the taper`s mics and thinking about how amazing it would be to capture every show in high quality and just listen and listen to this unique blend of crazy agressive rock music. Just as Jerry Joseph says, the intense attraction to wsp music is their ability to blend the light and the dark. The fun happy songs with the deep intense and dark songs. Anyways. back to the show. The jam coming out of DJ Boogie`s 2nd set was very nice. Everyone seemed real tuned into the collective groove of the evening. I couldn`t believe when I realized slippin into darkness was materializing. I hadn`t even thought of mentally requesting that one but it was amazing. Good People was one I predicted/requested for the evening and it did not dissappoint one bit. Then they started the first chords of Heroes and I knew that I wore my `heroes` wsp superman shirt for a reason. Short song, but unbelievably clean, tight and straight ripped up. Everything was so hectic then, that when xmas katie began, everyone just laid back and stretched out. Absolutley uncanny song selections and timings of everything. ("I don`t know why you don`t come to Montana a little more often" either JB) At this point in the show, everything just kept elevating and growing. Coming out of the drums...the mysterious magic of Sunny introducing the tribute song to the rainmaker: Hatfield. Hatfield is always welcome at any show or on any setlist. Epic song. Now what? We`ve pretty much done everything, right? Airplane picked it up another notch, and I was already on the cieling. It was too bad you couldn`t get any reasonable food or water at the show, because my batteries were running low, but I did not lose the focus on the show and the Airplane was unbelievable. This had to be the set closer..a 15+ minute airplane at this point....Ram JAm DAMN! the first chords of contentment just locked everything up in attention. Now this was going to finish the set because they`ve been playing forever....right?..Well, my top request hadn`t been met yet, so of course they had to blow my mind as they have so many times before and rip out the Proving Ground > Parsons closer. I remember at the same Jackson show from `99 mentioned above when I had been aching for Mr. SOul all tour and this was the last show I could go to on the tour and the very last song (2nd song of encore) was Mr. Soul! I literally blacked out and hit the floor. How do they know???!! Anyways the proving ground > parsons was absotively sick sick sick. I had no idea what to expect from the encore, but Gimmie was so transcendental, smooth and nice and when Walkin` started up, we did just that...to go find foood....All the memories are amazing. One of the best live shows I`ve ever seen. I can`t help but to look at the setlist and how Mickey Houser songs are still so well celebrated by the band. This is what makes wsp such a good band.. they fit together so well and they have such an amazing base of songs that you never know what to expect, but you can always count on it being.....THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH....you will ever see...............................................Who`s with me?. "EXCELLENT recording session. Herring`s jazz talent really comes through on "Pieces." Bell`s "Hatfield" rap is phenomenal. Schools and the band play a very different "Sleeping Man" from Chicago. Jojo`s voice is not only there on "Visiting Day" but it comes through in every key and melody (more flavors and textures than any Grateful Dead key player). Hopefully this is proof positive that old theaters were never designed for modern electric bands. The Panic could go into any barn or beat up warehouse and lay down two-and-a-half digital hours that most bands could never put together in their entire music careers. Subjectively, I cannot complain about the old theaters after the facts of some truly magical performances. But from an objective standpoint, The Panic should be pushing the venue further, along with the music. That`s how artists make history, not the other way around. Of course, I would never have written this if Mr. Herring wasn`t such a quick study. "
