Show Notes

Widespread Panic’s Archive project is expanding its horizons into the world of downloadable soundboard copies from shows gone by.  Have no fear – we will still be releasing multi-track shows in the same manner we have in the past, it’s just that this side of the project….we’re calling it Porch Songs…. will allow us to get more music from the vault out to the fans, in a reasonably-priced soundboard format .  So, what should you expect from this Porch Songs series and when….. and what’s the difference between a soundboard and a multi-track recording?  Visit the WP Archive page  to find out the details.

"I'm pretty sure first panic Memphis shows after seeing them at horde fest in 93 at Antioch Tennessee for very first time. Buddy of ours Dwayne C. died this year from our trip to Mud Island. Superb shows as always, set lists amazing in there forever glory when there on which nowadays is every show at every stop. Keep rocking old friends "

"Danny RIP miss him so much ; this song just now in my shop took me to a place of such emotion and gratitude, can’t love this band any more. Rock Star Heaven must be nice but he left too soon. Take care of yourselves y’all. Smoke was pouring out of the kitchen. Fat lady practicing the banjo. ??????"

"The end of the show is my favorite Danny sit in. The way jb and Danny share the mic complimented by a beautiful three guitar attack from Mikey Warren and Eric. Absolutely stunning stuff. RIP Danny."

"Easily a top 10 show for me. Nuff said."

"These 2 shows are incredible, listen is all I need to say.And I'm sure you will agree.Love any show with Arleen."

"The memphis shows were classic. Jojo, Dave,Sunny, and more? joined Mule to close the opener with little feats "Spanish Moon" The first night The Bare Naked Ladies opened, and it was weird. They grew very popular shortly after that, but in the opening set, the Bare Naked Ladies started making fun of all the tapers during one of their songs, it was classic! Needless to say, both Panic shows were smoking, definately worth downloading. '97 was a good year."

"Probably my favorite Panic show, I only caught the second night but it was smokin' from start to finish. Gov't Mule opened & my thoughts were that WSP had no option other than blowing it out. The jams from Greta through the end of Set 1 were amazing to say the least (Danny Hutchens should be credited for vocals on Parsons). The 2nd set was terrific although this soundboard copy fades in to Tall Boy which is too bad because the opening was pretty special according to my audience recordings. They really got down to some funky grooves in the Tall Boy, Aunt Avis was beautiful and the jam into Chilly Water was much appreciated. I always liked "Jack" but didnt fall in love with the tune until this show. The Rebirtha > Arleen was the highlight of the show for me, there's a great "FAME" jam inbetween that I swore at the time I was imagining (maybe I did!). The drumz were also great with Matt Abts from Mule joining in before a really slow Porch Song/Contentment Blues. The great Warren Haynes sits in for the encores with Matt Abts, Danny, and the guitarist from Bloodkin. Stellar show and minus the Tall Boy intro its a great recording to get your groove on... "

"I agree with the below comment, "stop whining" just be thankful. I can could not agree more, it is wonderful that we are getting this archive material. "Mikey" material needs to be put out, that IS Widespread Panic...especially for us 'ole schoolers. That being said, when are we going to get new releases. I know the WPA multi-track series takes some time, BUT Porch Songs according to Horace's blog on website, indicated we would have new Porch Songs downloads more often. It had been since late NOV. since Mud Isle, PLEASE bring out some new shows. Thanks.."

"stop whining. great show. lots of time is put into getting the music out for us cheap. quit bitching about minor flaws and be thankful for the effort that panic and their people put out so that we can enjoy the huge catalogue they have to offer for not a lot of $$."

"Went to the show, actually, just ended up logging on to the site through this show, but this was a fabulous show, as was the night before. (it was very steep there on the island). Bad-ass little venue if you've never been to Memphis, it's a must do/see. Most of us have actually seen Panic there with Col. B. at some point, but I digress.. I'd visit it many times again ... Anyway, This weekend in july, during the summer of '97 turned out to be especially nice, on the band-side as well as the stand-side, everyone was in full bloom that summer. Also, the bubbles were flowing from up on high during drums, so it made it especially nice during that show/tour along the Miss. river. (All of it culminating in Montgomery, Ala., an extremely nice show, albeit quiet), but these two shows (mud isle) were pretty darn fantastic. The recordings I've listened to since then have sufficed, but I'm glad to see that the real things are out there for the general public to consume! All I've got to say is, get the Gov't Mule sets that prelude, to make it a complete show. Have fun!"

"Yeah, so I'd rather buy a copy. Downloading and burning everything is a pain in the ass. I think I'll pass b/c I've already got an AUD of this show. Just generally worn out on all this crap, probably forever. "

"These are very nice, don't mind a fade in since most older SBD have them. What I do like a great deal is the crowd noise in between songs and during songs liek Pusherman...wish you guys could master the skill of doing this on the current recordings. 2009 had some good shows, but most of these boards sounded like extended studio jams and lack the crowd noise that takes you back to the show..."

John 12/11/2009 4:41:10 PM

"I think this release is completely awesome but also was irked by the fade in to "Tall Boy". Not keeping me from downloading but nice to know on the front end."

sleepingcat 12/8/2009 12:58:00 AM

"I love the concept of "Porch Songs" and I already have my own personal list of future releases. But, that being said, I think it's terribly unprofessional not to mention in the recording notes for the show little things like "Tall Boy Fades in before the first verse" The blanket caveat you slipped into you introduction of "Porch Song" does not negate the ability to tell someone the possible and inevitable mistakes that might be on their purchases. Horace, Brown Cat & Nugs I have the up-most respect respect for you folks but it time to step up your game. "

GT 12/3/2009 12:08:49 PM

"This is aweomse... Thank you for releasing this, and I hope it continues. Sound quality is spectacular as far as I am concerned, stellar to any other recordings of these shows. Keep them coming!"

Coconut Phil 12/3/09 Jamming!!!!! 12/3/2009 11:23:45 AM

"This sort of caught me by surprise, I was reading in the Archives about this. Then, like a bolt of lighting it was here. I'm jamming to the first show as I type. The price was sure right. The sound quality is not what I'm used to, but is sure good enough to keep me coming back for each show. Houser's lead is awesome, he really was a true master. Please keep it coming, I'm very happy with this. Thanks Horace. A year ago tomorrow, I lost a good friend, Jay Parham....... I miss you bro! Jam on America! Coconut Phil"
