Show Notes

Given that the team is on their second night in Norway, it’s somewhat appropriate that the gig opens with a suitable icy soundscape that unfurls at a glacial pace. Of course, things quickly warm up with a scorching Level Five although there’s a moment on the ‘Star Trek’ section where Robert’s fingers have momentarily melted.

EleKtrik finds the band sounding nicely limbered up with Gunn and Mastelotto’s interplay within the tightly defined environment of the track outstanding. As the front line navigates their way around the complex maze of twists and curves there are moments where the guitars threaten to come unstuck. Of course, that 'teetering on the edge' feeling is all part of the excitement. “That sure has a lot of notes,” says Belew with a smile after they make it all the way to the end.

You can just about hear the wild applause filling the venue after an equally wild Oyster Soup brings the formal part of the night to a close.
