“Thanks for coming to the world premier of most of the notes we know...and a few we don’t” quips Belew after the Double Duo take to the stage for the first of four nights in the intimate confines of Nashville’s 12th & Porter ahead of a European tour later that month. The gig also represents the debut of this incarnation of Crimso unveiling material from The ConstruKction of Light. Of particular interest in this gig is the live rendition of Heaven & Earth, Having emerged out of the ProjeKct X experiment, the track was primarily the work of Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn who favoured a more instrumental direction picking up on the exploratory work of the ProjeKcts. FraKctured is a nail-biting ride as fingers and feet rush to match-up to stomp boxes and musicians fly to be in the same place at the same time. It doesn’t quite go according to plan but it’s still an enthralling experience. A good-natured if slightly tentative performance, crinkles and rucks in the system are clearly still being ironed out in places throughout the set.
