Show Notes

It is a fact that there is always more variation in the setlist at the start of the tour than by the end. A prime example of this is opening with Dawn Song’s chilly panoramas and Radical Action’s almost-but-not-quite rereading of The Battle Of Glass Tears. Lizard fans would have to wait a while longer for that particular combination to knock their socks off. As it is, Cirkus, complete with a sample of Gordon Haskell’s frustrated yell triggered by Pat Mastelotto, does a pretty good job at conjuring something of that album’s particular magic. Levin’s questing bass lines and the drum fills leading into the final instrumental verse, and its explosive coda, are remarkable in their power and focus. Closing the first set with a thumping version of Red leaves fans wanting more. While the good people of Aylesbury did indeed get another hour-plus, that second set remains unheard by posterity due to insurmountable technical difficulties.
