Show Notes

Fans of the album Red had a treat on the second night in Stuttgart as the setlist chosen that afternoon had Red, One More Red Nightmare, and Starless running in sequence, which provided a near-perfect climax to the evening’s concert. Whilst Red has been part of Crimson’s live repertoire since 1981, the current arrangement moves seamlessly from the clipped, military-style march during the verse sections to a rapid-fire burst of off-the-leash exchanges between the rhythm buddies. This is a lovely moment of rhythmic baton passing that recurs throughout One More Red Nightmare’s instrumental intro and bridges. Starless provides the usual cathartic release, not just structurally within the set but from the audience’s perspective. Although the song had been a regular feature of the setlist from 2014 onwards, the emotional charge it carried was tangible when those mournful opening Mellotron chords seeped into the room.
