The second night in Oslo finds Crims in good form, with Fracture’s various twists and turns emanating a daunting yet exuberant presence. That combination of cerebral application and emotional discharge underpinning the piece makes it such a significant moment whenever it is performed. Perhaps the highlight of the second half of the show comes with The Light Of Day making its second appearance of the tour. When it was first performed live in 2014, some in the audience expressed surprise or bafflement at the song’s shimmering dissonances and deep Noir-ish shadows. Yet such moments have been part of the Crimson vocabulary since 1969, so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to open-eared Crim-heads. As if to make that very point, the fact that it finds itself in such close proximity to The Letters, which, like The Light Of Day, centres around an isolated vocal, tense atmospherics and a smattering of atonal improv, cannot be accidental.
