Show Notes

It’s always interesting to hear a new track being unveiled for the first time. After Sleepless, just audible amongst the cheers of the crowd, various Crims can be heard saying “Oh, it’s the new one!” and other similar expressions of surprise and trepidation. They’d done a run-through of the track in that day’s soundcheck.

“I’m not sure how many of you speak English... but for those who do this is the very first time we’re going to play this song for anyone in the world. Wish us luck” says Ade as they go into their first proper public rendition of People in the encore section. So eager are they to get on with it (Bruford can be heard yelling at the back “Just do it!”) parts of the band start up before everyone is ready.

The instrumental section is interesting with Bruford adding a sassy ride cymbal once Adrian’s rather reflective and restrained solo has been completed. Amidst the back and forth exchanges of the guitars there’s clearly a lot of eye contact going on as players try to direct each other towards the finishing line. After they all hit the mark as required, coming to a dead stop, there’s a palpable sense of relief they made in roughly in one piece as Ade says “You’re too kind”.
